As we all have seen in recent years and months a great deal of work has been done in our area.
The pedestrianizing of the Marina is a game changer and the new Marina Park is the envy of the rest of the city. This was not an overnight success, I held a public meeting in 2010 in Blackrock community centre where the Dutch landscape architect who designed the Marina park attended.
It has taken 7 years of constantly asking the council and government for funding to rejuvenate Blackrock Village and deliver the Marina Park and upgrade the Marina itself.
Thanks to the Fine Gael led government of 2015 we finally got funding to start the Blackrock village project and from there the Marina Park and the Marina upgrade have begun.
We can see the new play area in Holland Park ( a funny story as to why it named Holland Park for another day ) on the Marina has just opened.
Phase 2 of the Marina Park will begin in May, preparatory works has begun, namely tree works as to not disturb nesting season in a few months’ time. There are great images on view in the area and they can be viewed on the city council website. www.corkcity.ie .
The well thought out redevelopment of the Marina itself will also start then. Both projects may take 15 months or so to complete. A tree officer is now employed in city hall, funded by the government ,also a biodiversity office will be starting shortly.
