Des is a member of Fine Gael, representing the Cork City South-East Ward which covers Blackrock, Ballintemple, Ballinlough, Mahon, Docklands South , Albert/Victoria road, Douglas, Rochestown and Donnybrook.

Elected to Cork City Council 2009,2014 and 2019

Lord Mayor 2016/ 2017 (Theme of the year was positivity)

SKEHARD ROAD

PHASE 3 CHURCH ROAD TO BESSBORO JUNCTION
Final Account agreed. Some tree planting to be undertaken before year end.

PASSAGE GREENWAY ENHANCEMENT CONTRACT

Phase 1 (Mahon to Docklands) Construction ongoing. All Phases (The Marina to Blackrock Station), (N40 to Mahon) and (Blackrock Station to Skehard Rd) are now complete and open to the public.

PASSAGE GREENWAY ENHANCEMENT CONTRACT

Phase 2 (Mahon to Passage) (€4.0 million) First round of early consultation is concluded. Design of the preferred route is complete. Planning to An Bord Pleanala to commence in November

MARINA PROMENADE

Prelim Design is complete. Site investigation contract is complete. Part 8 Planning is complete. Detailed Design Phase has commenced as has further engagement with adjoining stakeholders.

CLARKE’S HILL

Design and planning is complete. Land Acquisition discussions are underway. Negotiations are ongoing re. part funding of the project with TII.

ROCHESTOWN TO DOUGLAS CYCLE

Design Team has been appointed. Preliminary design is progressing.

MAHON CYCLE PROJECT

Preliminary design is complete. Section 38 planning is approved. Detailed Design is progressing.

MAHON TO CITY CENTRE TRANSPORT CORRIDOR

This will be delivered as part of bus connects.

BESSBORO TO MAHON PEDESTRIAN & CYCLE LINK

Prelim Design is progressing for this project.

SOUTH QUAYS PUBLIC TRANSPORT IMPROVEMENT SCHEME

Prelim design is ongoing. Awaiting approval from NTA to advertise Section 38.

DOCKLANDS TO CITY CENTRE PROJECT

(€6.5 million) Detailed design process underway. Legal Team review of documents is complete. Design team revising documents. Revised Environmental Screening & Part 8 documents as per Legal Team advice are under development. Part 8 publication scheduled for Q4.

DOCKLANDS TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE

(URDF) Programme delivery strategy and expenditure profile are under development. Design Brief for selection of overall design team has commenced.

GRANGE TO TVP PEDESTRIAN & CYCLEWAY

Construction on main contract ongoing (inc. N40 BRIDGE).

DONNYBROOK HILL PEDESTRIAN UPGRADE SCHEME

Detailed Design ongoing. CPO submitted to An Bord Pleanála in early October for approval .

SOUTH DOUGLAS ROAD JUNCTION

Substantial completion of construction. Minor snagging and landscaping work ongoing.

AIRPORT ROAD PEDESTRIAN & CYCLE ROUTE

Detailed Design for segregation of cycle lane and improved pedestrian facilities is complete. Section 38 planning is approved. Detailed Design is progressing

MARYBOROUGH WOODS CYCLE ROUTE

Section 38 approved by Council detailed design has commenced

STREETSCAPE RENEWAL OF COOK STREET, PRINCES STREET AND MARLBORO STREET

Tender for appointment of consultant advertised in Q4 2022.

MONAHAN ROAD EXTENSION

(€5 million) Preliminary design is complete. Land Acquisition is progressing. Site Investigation contract is complete. Part 8 planning is approved. CPO of 1 site due to be published in late October. Construction tender scheduled for Q4 2022 with construction in early 2023.

MARINA PARK PHASE 2 & 3

Part 8 planning is approved. Detailed Design is progressing. Construction Tender process to commence late 2022 with construction to commence in early 2023
